Artificial Intelligence in Executive Job Hunt

Artificial Intelligence, AI is today playing an increasingly important role in recruitment. It is used in mass recruitment, but it also concerns executives. Before thinking of how to use it for executive job hunting it is important to understand how recruiters are using it.

AI is used by recruiters for market mapping, creating job descriptions, scheduling interviews, preparing interviewing questions for candidates, optimizing database information, and crafting candidate profile summaries. It is widely used for identifying potential candidates from various databases, the Internet, and recruitment portals like LinkedIn. AI is looking for keywords that have been programmed using the job description as a basis.

In the future, AI may even predict candidates who may be interested in changing jobs. This may happen for instance by teaching AI rules like which markets, businesses, companies, and positions are changing.

In mass recruitment, the first round of interviews may be done by video using an AI application to screen candidates. Based on programmed questions and combined with machine vision AI may assess for instance aspects of personality, loyalty, truthfulness, creativity, empathy, etc.

Soft skills like social intelligence/people skills, strategic abilities, goal orientation, resilience, leadership abilities, management skills, etc. are required in executive recruitment. Understanding if the candidate has these skills requires in-depth conversations and multiple interactions. Therefore, in executive recruitment in the interviewing process, AI cannot be applied.

How to then use AI to help in the executive job hunt?

The process of career planning starts with learning to know yourself and from researching and finding information about the market, trends, business, positions, and how these would match what you want and what you bring to the table. AI will help you to plan how to develop and train yourself to match the criteria of the job you are looking for. AI-powered platforms offer online courses and training programs to enhance your skills. By identifying skill gaps and suggesting appropriate courses, AI can help you upskill and stand out in the job market.

Tuning CV and profile

Personal professional branding – from what you will be recognized in the job market – is an important part of the job search and marketing your add value. AI can help you to find information about where your experience and skills are needed, by whom, when, and what they want. Today candidate screening is getting more and more automated. Therefore, recruiters, AI applications, robots, and ATR (applicant tracking systems) must find your CV or profile. There are AI applications that help you to draw your CV based on the information you have inserted and applications that then finetune it to contain a maximum number of keywords based on the job description you are looking for.

Expanding your network.

A contact network is essential in a job search. AI tools can help you expand your professional network. For instance, AI-powered platforms can suggest connections based on your industry, interests, and mutual contacts. They can also provide insights and information about potential employers, helping you engage in more meaningful conversations.

Practicing for the interview

Executives may be experienced with interviews as often they have recruited several employees, but this is not always the case. AI chatbots can simulate interview scenarios and provide feedback on your performance in an interview. Some applications use AI and machine vision and provide feedback on your behavior and body language in the interview. They can help you practice commonly asked interview questions, improve your responses, and boost your confidence.

Personalized job recommendations.

AI can analyze your browsing history, job preferences, and application activities to provide personalized job recommendations. This can help you discover relevant job opportunities that you may have overlooked. There are several recruitment portals on the internet where you may submit your data and they will come back to you with job recommendations.

Executive job search is a systematic and continuous process where AI is a useful help. Everyone including executives should use it.
